What is Happening in Haiti?

With global inflation on the rise due to several factors, one of which being Russia’s war in Ukraine, Haiti has been suffering. With this, Prime MInister Henry announced the cancellation of fuel subsidies, increasing prices by almost 100%.

As a result, the entrance to a major fuel terminal has been blocked, causing fuel shortages that have resulted in the closing of hospitals, grocery stores and other businesses who do not have access to fuel.

With this, the UN recently reported that over four million Haitians are facing acute food insecurity. Access to clean water is limited, resulting in a worsening cholera outbreak leading to dozens of lives lost.
